Grantee of the Month – October 2012

Grantee of the Month

TRCF is proud to recognize our grantees throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania that promote social justice and change through their activities. Each month we will recognize one of these organizations as our Grantee of the Month.

Let Our Voices Be Heard

Grantee of the Month, October 2012

Let Our Voices Be Heard (LOVBH) is a cross-disability group who work to ensure that when decisions are made regarding policy and services, those most affected by those services are represented and the process is as democratic as possible.

LOVBH has been around for almost a decade, and has been active in multiple events regarding citizen engagement. Through Advocacy in Actions trips and Legislative Breakfast events, members have had a chance to meet with state legislators. They’ve also been involved with letter writing and phone call campaigns, voter education and outreach, and community organizing, highlighted by town hall meeting and local organizational forums.

Creating Change

In working diligently to make sure that people with disabilities are involved in the conversation surrounding the policy and services that will most affect them, Let Our Voices be Heard creates an important open discourse for disability rights.

TRCF’s 2010 grant to LOVBH was used to implement a voter engagement project, aiming to increase voter and civic participation among members of the disability community.

You can visit Let Our Voices be Heard’s website here and also you can look around the website of LOVBH’s umbrella organization, Mental Health America here.
